Ruckus Wireless has recently acquired Cloudpath Network, a secure Wi-Fi onboarding software used to easily and securely manage on-going Wi-Fi guest access for a large number of users and devices, and will include it in its Smart Wi-Fi product Portfolio.
Ruckus Wireless, a global supplier of Wi-Fi networking equipment, is buying Cloudpath Networks security software and will implement it soon to simplify and improve Wi-Fi security and provide a protected entry point for BYOD and IT devices with Cloudpath’s proprietary Set-It-And-Forget-It™ technology. Cloudpath’s acquisition by Ruckus was a result of its leadership in the education market as a self-service software technology that enabled a business to adopt certificate-based WiFi.
Cloudpath’s one-time enrollment process authenticates the user and its device, consequently configuring the device with the appropriate WLAN and certificate for the desired policy. When users return, they are automatically connected to the secure network with the correctly designated policies, also known as Cloudpath’s Set-It-And-Forget-It™ feature. This privately held provider not only pioneered as a Wi-Fi onboarding software, but the deployment of its technology eliminates the IT support costs and user frustration associated with passwords.
Cloudpath’s strong footprint in Smart Wi-Fi technology makes it a particularly strong asset to drive sales in the education, retail, enterprise, governments, and hospitality markets in Ruckus’ renowned Smart Wi-Fi Portfolio. Services like Cloudpath are used by retailers, enterprises, and education markets to manage distinct access policies for various users and easily and securely manage on-going Wi-Fi access for a large number of users and devices.
Unfortunately, Cloudpath’s customers, particularly in the educational sector, are not thrilled by this recent acquisition by Ruckus in fear it will no longer support non-Ruckus vendors and become a Ruckus-only software for secure Wi-Fi guest access.
