In a previous article, we spoke about the $1.2 deal struck by Brocade to acquire Ruckus Wireless. To date, this deal continues to be one of the largest acquisitions in the recent years and is expected to close by the end of this month.
Thanks to this acquisition, Brocade Communications Systems Inc.’s product portfolio will expand, namely with wireless products, and it will now be able to compete
with the extensive product portfolios offered by larger networking companies like Cisco and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. Before Ruckus’ acquisition, Brocade “lacked a viable wireless offering,” state Mark Hung, an analyst at Garner.
Brocade will also support Ruckus’ interoperability as it plans to continue supporting existing Ruckus customers, even those who are currently using competitor’s networking gear. The objective is to make this integration as much of a smooth transition as possible for all the parties involved.
Despite Brocade’s acquisition of Ruckus, a distinguished player in the WLAN space, it is not for certain that Brocade will succeed in the WLAN and wired market as it is likely that it will not be considered an immediate contender among enterprise vendors. Most of Ruckus’s wireless systems are used for large-scale deployments for organizations in education, hospitality and manufacturing.
